Don't you just love looking at Gatsby era inspirations like these?  This styled shoot took place at the Church Street Ballroom in Orlando, Florida.  Photographer Misty Miotto shot this journey back in time with the help of some savvy wedding professionals lending a collaborative imagination on all the small details. Especially evocative of this carefree era are indeed the details. Check out the ferns on pedestals, the stained glass and bouquets--especially the whimsical mix of Hydrangeas and Ostrich plumes!  So fun and a great tribute to the jazz age . . . .!

SAMPLE SALE ON ETSY

Well, it's that time of year again.  While my design studio is packed with a few really great samples from seasons past and I love looking at these gems, bottom line is, we gotta part company and make room for the newbies coming off the work table.   For those of you who aren't familiar with how buying a sample works here's the lowdown.  Most of the dresses you see here are photographic samples made up for photo shoots and trying on.  A few are in fabrics close to but not as ready for prime time as the imported silks custom ordered by clients.    Just so you know, a few of them are indeed in yummy 100 percent silks but a couple seasons old, hence the lower price.  In any case your sample will be one-of-a-kind and handmade, have couture technique likes hand-picked zipper and hand-tacked linings no machine can emulate.  Before I sell these babies rest assured they do go through proper refurbishing and cleaning.

THE RETURN OF THE RUFFLE

Ruffles are back so jazzed and prettied up on skirts, tops and even accessories layered in them. On trend now is  anything ruched to the intricately gathered skirts rolled into florals. As you've probably figured  ruffles can be worn head to toe on bodice, sleeve, skirt or train. And don't forget those finishing touches like shoes, purses, gloves, hats and veils layered in ruffles. Below are just a few treatments celebrating variations on the ruffle.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE GOWN GALLERY?

I've always loved the weight and feel of a fabric called antique satin, a cross between shantung and satin crepe.  Here I mixed it up with a little white Chantilly lace, adding a tulle overskirt for a real romantic look.  Modeled by the lovely Sabrina, she's showing off just about every aspect of this dress's charm, as a fitted sheath and ball gown all at once. Oddly enough this particular piece was inspired by another Sabrina--yes, the fictional one played so beautifully by Audrey Hepburn in the 1954 film of the same name.  If you remember the scene where she shows up at the party in a number she describes as, " Yards of skirt and way off the shoulder . . ."   This dress is as lovely inside as out, lined in soft China silk.  The hand-rolled floral headpiece is also available as a custom order.

THE FINE ART OF WEARING FLORALS

Think of it--florals in your hair.  They pair up so nicely with simple gown silhouettes adding a tropical feel, A-lines and ball gowns with a touch of the romantic.  There are three kinds of florals: Fresh, artificial and hand-rolled fabric flowers.  All are beautiful choices.  Fresh can be ordered through your florist possibly echoing some of those in your bouquet.  Artificial flowers are typically silk, some so well made they look like they were just picked out of the garden.  Hand-rolled flowers are made out of fabric like dupioni, organza or shantung, sometimes in the same fabric as your gown.  These have a real haute couture look and are usually attached to a barrette or spongy wire-wrap.  You’ll need the help of a hairdresser incorporating fresh flowers into your hair.  Artificial ones sometimes come with an attached comb.  If not, you’ll need help anchoring these in.  Some hairstylists will even weave poufs of netting through the flowers, creating a real high-fashion look. Looking for a bit of Boho?  Wreaths can be so romantic and conjure images of wood nymphs and angels.  You can use silk or fresh florals.  For the latter, florists can put these together.  My personal faves are made of English Ivy, dried roses and Baby's Breath . . . .

COUNTRY CHIC

Spring and summer are ideal times for the quaint charm of a countryside wedding.  Here's  some  of the magic that happens when two devoted and passionate talents team up.  Photographer Diana Maire and Holly Sanneman of Diamantin Events had a vision of what the quintessential rural wedding would look like.  When Diana approached me because she thought  a couple of my dresses would fit well in this stylized shoot, we were thinking along the lines of Boho 50s with a little something else thrown into the mix.    Below you'll find  some truly awe-inspiring fashion, food and decor that come from the dedication of teamwork and talent.
